Customer Insights Journeys Segments: Target Smarter with Real-Time Audience Data

Effective marketing starts with knowing your audience. In Customer Insights – Journeys (CIJ), segmentation is the foundation for delivering personalized, timely messages that resonate. Formerly known as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Marketing, CIJ empowers marketers to define and reach the right audience using real-time audience segmentation and predictive lead scoring.

Whether you're launching a new campaign or nurturing existing leads, CIJ’s segmentation tools help you target smarter and drive better results.

How to Build Segments in CIJ

Creating segments in CIJ is straightforward and powerful. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Go to Segments and Click + New Segment

  • Access Customer Insights Journeys in the left-hand navigation site map

  • Click ‘New Segment’

  • Begin building a new audience group.

2. Choose Attributes

Filter contacts by behaviors (like email opens or form submissions), demographics, or custom fields.

Tip: Once a new table is added selecting ‘Add table’ you can NOT remove it from your CIJ instance easily.

3. Save and Mark as Ready to Use

Finalize your segment and make it available for use in journeys.

This process allows marketers to create highly targeted groups based on live data, enabling behavioral targeting in CIJ that adapts as customer actions evolve.

Using Segments in Marketing Journeys

Once your segments are built, you can use them to launch personalized marketing journeys:

Start Journeys with Segment Entry Conditions

You can create a journey based on specific audience segments, so if you want users to enter a journey (aka campaign) based on this segment criteria, you can kick start a Journey based on this audience criteria.

  • Add Actions
    Include email sends, wait times, conditional branches, and other steps to guide the customer experience.

  • Publish to Activate
    Once your journey is complete, publish it to begin engaging your audience.

This integration between segments and journeys ensures that your campaigns are always aligned with the most relevant audience data.
